Hi, I’m Carla!
Speech & Drama is a creative outlet that all ages benefit from. It’s a fun way to challenge yourself, meet new people, and feel like part of a team–all while using your imagination.
Whether you’re an adult looking for something new to try, or a parent seeking an outlet for your creative (or perhaps even shy!) child, there’s room for everyone in Speech & Drama.
Why Speech & Drama?
I discovered my passion for drama & the performing arts as a student at the Chatterbox School of Speech & Drama. Guided by Marese Heavin & Tina McTiernan, I had the opportunity to immerse myself in poetry and improvisation, feeling most alive and confident during these moments. My journey through Speech & Drama not only honed my social and public speaking skills but also underscored the importance of teamwork and unleashed my imagination to its fullest potential. Completing all 10 graded examinations stands as a testament to my growth and dedication in this field.
My journey continued at the Leinster School of Music & Drama, Griffith College, where I pursued a Higher Diploma in Drama Education. This comprehensive program equipped me with essential skills, from devising and directing stage performances to preparing comprehensive and inclusive teaching practises. Since completing this course, I have the privilege of working alongside the Programme Director, Suzanne Binley, in her speech & drama school SB Theatre Works which continues to enrich my teaching experience.
I also dedicated seven remarkable years to FUSION, a local singing, dancing, and acting group. My involvement with FUSION significantly enhanced my confidence both on and off the stage. In subsequent years, I had the opportunity to choreograph dance routines, which marked the beginning of my role in teaching younger children.
Since beginning this journey, I’ve earned the following certifications:
H.Dip Drama Ed., LLSMD, ALSMD, BBS Business & Mgt
Now, equipped with valuable experience teaching speech & drama to students aged 4-18 across Co. Monaghan and Co. Dublin, I am thrilled to bring the magic of drama to the students of Speech Symphony. Our classes are designed to foster imagination and creativity, challenge students in a positive way, and ultimately to be a space where we can have fun while learning important communicative skills.
Speech & Drama teaches so much more than how to act on the stage.
“Our 6 year old was very shy when introduced to the group under Carla’s leadership she really came out of her shell and enjoyed the camp immensely. She is now looking forward to starting classes with Carla in September.”
